New Digital Collection: GATE

The Archives has recently made digitized selections from the GATE Records available online. GATE, or the GARP Atlantic Tropical Experiment, was a large and complex international scientific experiment designed to gain an increased understanding of the atmosphere and causes of climatic variation and change.

History of Supercomputing at NCAR

Renaissance Man of Meteorology

Joachim Kuettner, eminent researcher, administrator, field-project leader, and glider pilot died on 24 February at the age of 101.  Dr. Kuettner's amazing life is chronicled on a website devoted to his decades-long career. He will be missed by his many colleagues and friends.

Joach Kuettner Celebrates 101st Year

Renaissance man of meteorology, Dr. Joachim Kuettner, celebrates his 101st birthday on September 21, 2010. 

His amazing life is being chronicled in part on a new website.

At the 2010 January American Meteorological Society’s annual meeting in Atlanta, GA, a Symposium was held in Joach’s honor.  Symposium presentations are now available on Joach’s website on the first link under the Timeline of Accomplishments and Achievements.

Stephen Schneider Nuclear Winter Papers

The NCAR Archives is pleased to announce that the Stephen Schneider Nuclear Winter Papers are open for research. This important collection provides a window into understanding the relationship between science and public policy toward the end of the Cold War, as well as the importance of science in working toward the betterment of society.  A collection guide is available online.
